Pasture and Grazing Management

The flagship AIMS 3 day Pasture and Grazing Management workshop has been delivered to over 1,000 graziers.  The material covers the basics of grass growth and response to grazing and the importance of appropriate grazing management for soil health.  Tools for pasture assessment, feed budgeting and preparing a grazing plan are introduced.  Selected material can be presented in shorted 1 or 2 day duration workshops.

A comprehensive online training course Grazing Management Principles has been developed in conjunction with SmartSoil.  The course includes theory of grass physiology, soil health and the impact of the range of grazing management approaches on land health.  The course is available at Smartsoil CLICK HERE for a brief outline of the course or CLICK HERE to access more details.

Planning

Customised courses can be developed to cover a range of planning processes including;

  • the development of detailed grazing plans which incorporate the use of the grazing tools provided on this website.
  • property planning course includes detail of the processes involved in preparing your plan as well as practical advice on fencing and water infrastructure and the relationship between the grazing plan and your property plan.

Grazing for Soil Health

Soil is the foundation of all grazing enterprises and healthy soil is critical for optimal water use and pasture production.  The way grazing animals move across the landscape has a significant impact on soil health.

The course program covers the key elements of soil health and how grazing management influences the physical, biological and chemical characteristics of your soil.

Holistic Management

A range of Holistic Management training options are available, from individual coaching, workshops range from one day introduction to the concepts, or more detailed 2 or 3 day events up to the comprehensive 12 month training program (10 days of formal sessions).  Training programs can be tailored to meet your needs.

Grasses and grasslands

Grasslands are critical to the health of our planet.  Globally grasslands occupy 6.2 billion hectares and within Australia 460 million hectares, 60% of the land surface.  The primary land use of these areas is livestock grazing.  Unfortunately, as a result of inappropriate grazing management most of this area is degraded and pasture growth is less than optimal.

This program will increase your understanding of how grasses and grasslands function and their dependence on grazing animals for optimal health and production.

Grass and grassland species identification workshops are also available.
